Characteristics of Successful Applicants
Applicants for the Teacher Track of the Immersion program must demonstrate a clear match between the track outcomes and the goals of the individual. That match will be evaluated by the extent to which the application materials address the following criteria:
- The applicant has information literacy instruction as a component or potential component of their job
- The applicant communicates at least a base knowledge of issues surrounding information literacy
- The applicant demonstrates a knowledge of their own library culture (or academic library culture if new librarian) and their own campus culture
- The applicant demonstrates a positive attitude about students and their ability to learn
- The applicant clearly expresses the benefit to themselves and to their institution that will be derived from the learning outcomes
- The applicant expresses a desire to actively participate in a learning community, evidenced by (but not limited to):
- a desire to learn about their own teaching
- a willingness to contribute fully during the intense learning period of the program
- an expressed interest in trying new ideas
- a willingness to do the work required during the program
Applicants for the Program Track of the Immersion program must demonstrate a clear match between the track outcomes and the goals of the individual. That match will be evaluated by the extent to which the application materials address the following criteria:
- Applicant must have leadership with information literacy instruction as a component or a potential component of their job
- Applicant has a developed knowledge of issues surrounding information literacy
- Applicant must demonstrate personal commitment to and/or enthusiasm about building an information literacy program as a means to promote student success
- Applicant must demonstrate knowledge of both their own library culture and their own campus culture. In addition to knowledge of culture, there must be indications that the institution is primed for an action plan and that a support system for change is in place
- Applicant must clearly express the benefit to be derived from the learning outcomes, and the benefits must match the institutions goals, culture and level of support/readiness
- Applicant expresses a desire to actively participate in a learning community, evidenced by (but not limited to):
- a desire to learn about their own leadership style and abilities
- a willingness to contribute fully during the intense learning period of the program
- an expressed interest in trying new ideas
- a willingness to do the work required during the program
In addition, when viewed as a member of a learning cohort, the applicant's perspective, attitude, and experience will contribute to the learning of their track colleagues.
