Conference Call
Members attending: Anne Armstrong, (UIC), Kelly Fisher (Eureka), Dave Green (Northeastern), Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe (UIUC), Gretl Kramer (Elgin CC), Sarah Laaker (John Wood CC), Greg MacAyeal (Roosevelt), Dane Ward (ISU), Nancy Weichert (UIS)

Decisions:
- Minutes of the August 27 meeting were approved
- The Committee agreed to pursue planning of an IACRL preconference linked to the Conference theme of “Librarians as Leaders: Energizing Our Communities.”
- The CARLI Preconference would focus on leadership in building libraries over the next five years with an emphasis on meeting user-needs.
- The rough schematic of the program is as follows:
- Keynote concerning the changing academic library environment
- A presentation of visions of the Illinois academic library future (The committee would solicit visions of the future from colleagues around the state. Dane’s Added Note: Alternatively, might this be a poster presentation?)
- A panel of state leaders would talk about how we will get to this future
- Afternoon sessions would focus on practical issues in the following areas:
- Reference
- Instruction
- Technology
- Collections
- Technical Services
- Administration/Management
- Consortia
- The Committee agreed to pursue planning of a June 13 workshop, tentatively titled “Innovations in Information Literacy.” The program would present a showcase of information literacy activities among Illinois colleagues, including those concerning assessment, social technologies, and online instruction. The program would take place at Illinois State University.
- The Committee also discussed the idea of creating a librarian speaker bureau in collaboration with other Midwest library associations. No decisions were made on this topic.
- Program planning information needs to be completed by mid-October in preparation for the Program Planning Committee which meets at the end of October.
Tasks Assigned
- Committee members working on the Preconference are Anne Armstrong, Dave Green, Gretl Kramer, Greg McAyeal and Dane Ward
- Committee members working on the information literacy workshop are Elizabeth Clarage, Kelly Fisher, Lisa Janike Hinchliffe, Sarah Laaker, Jennifer Masciardrelli, and Nancy Weichert
- Work on the two programs will be conducted through email
