1. Approval of minutes of previous meeting with update
Elizabeth asked that “our webliography will be announced at the CARLI annual meeting” be changed to read “a request will be made for an announcement…”
2. Old business

  • Review of Preservation Webliography links. Please send changes to Elizabeth who will pass them along to the CARLI Webmaster.
  • Fire Services Institute Burn Simulation/Recovery Workshop
Jennifer contacted the Institute who acknowledged receipt of our request and want to do this, but did not confirm a date.
Sarah McHone-Chase (NIU) agreed to be the morning speaker and will talk about disaster planning.
  • Media/photographic survey and workshop
Jennifer will talk to Sarah Stauderman about the workshop.
Elizabeth will put our survey in Survey Monkey—when it is up we will need to proof it and test it.
  • CARLI newsletter contributions
Lynne and Alyce have completed theirs; Elizabeth will put Alyce’s on the wiki for us to see.
    Anne’s contribution is next.
Elizabeth suggested we use the third person in writing these news notes.
  • IMLS Connecting to Collections Grant
Jennifer sent an update: final edits to the grant are in the works; she will send a copy to the group.
Elizabeth reported that CARLI committed $5,000 to help defray costs of meetings.
Alyce, representing the State Library, and Jennifer, representing UIUC are both on the planning committee. They are also representing CARLI and will keep this group informed of the proposals progress.

3. New business

  • Possible joint forum on digital preservation with Digital Collections User Group.
The Digital Collections User Group (Matt Cook, Chair, UIC) has requested a joint forum with our working group for Spring 2009.

Lynne will attend the NEDCC workshop in December. The group might consider how this might be scaled down for smaller and poorer schools.

Elizabeth mentioned SOLINET’s workshops. They charge $100 for webinars and $200 for in-person workshops. A workshop in digital stewardship will be held in November.

The group decided that these should be added to the webliography under training.

Suggestions for speakers (bring more suggestions to next meeting) for
    • Howard Besser (NYU)
    • Karen Zimmerman (IUPUI)
    • Kim will contact person in charge of digital preservation at Columbia
    • Sarah Shreeves (UIUC)
    • Tim Donohue (UIUC)

Two ideas for digital preservation topics include "Scalability" and "Copyright as it relates to digital preservation."

  • Other new business and announcements
    • Anne has received approval to hold the February 2 in-person meeting at Aurora.
    • Lynne will check with the Fire Institute to confirm a date.
    • Elizabeth announced that the phone numbers used today are the numbers we should use for all future meetings.
