I-Share OPAC Team Meeting
January 13, 2009 Present: Karen Becker, Jana Brubaker, Kitti Canepi, Paula Dempsey, Jonathan Gorman, Gregory Morrison, Amanda Pippitt, Susan Prokopeak Also Present: IUG Liaison: Keith Eiten and CARLI Staff Liaison: Paige Weston, Kathy Chang Google Book Search:Paige reported that Google book search has been reinstated for the Vufind interface. It will be reintegrated with WebVoyage (possible next week.) If it doesn’t work as planned CARLI will have to put it on the backburner until after the upgrade this summer. Vufind FAQ documentKitti noted that there was a difference between local vs. I-Share version. Paige noted that all major development work is on hold at this point. Welcome Page:The page has been restructured to make the drop-down menus balance I-Share. Vu find has two buttons and they have updated what’s new. Web Voyage Upgrades:Paige reported that CARLI has been looking at the WebVoyage 7.0 on the test database for basic functionality. CARLI will compile a list of issues to be reviewed and discussed as we come closer to the anticipated upgrade date and we have more information. VuFind and ILL:Kitti reported on the ILL functionality issues in Vufind. We are in Phase I now and when we move to Phase II it will be closer to how requesting materials works in the universal catalog. In Phase II Vufind will identify that “this copy is not available” and ask you if you would like another. We may be able to do more sophisticated matching. Phase II will push some of the matching selection back to the user to refine the matching criteria. Phase III may resemble a FRBRized collection. The primary issue may become the cost. Currently in WebVoyage there can be so many holdings attached to a bib that an item cannot be requested. IUGKeith reported that the IUG met on 12/19 via conference call. Susan Singleton’s address to the library directors included:
The driving force behind this testing and criteria is the OPAC team. They will be asked to identify things to be tested but not necessarily formulate the questions. To Do List:Amanda suggested that the committee could create a list of things that we would like usability testing on. Paige suggested that the decision points for Web Voyage 7.0 can be similar to what we do now or we can rethink the matter. |
