In attendance: Paige Weston, Amanda Pippitt, Gregory Morrison, Keith Eitan, Jonathan Gorman, Karen Becker, Nancy Sosna Bohm, Susan Prokopeak, Paula Dempsey, Jana Brubaker, Kathy Chang
- Minutes from last meeting will be reviewed, modified, and approved via email by September 10th.
- Finalized decision about GBS/Syndetics display.
Changed to read: More information at Syndetics Limited Preview at Google Book Search [logo] Approved as opt out.
- Finalized decision on text-me-this-call-number function.
Resolved: to be implemented in the UC. Approved as an opt in for the local catalogs (because of concerns about abuse).
- 4.VuFind:
- Review of VuFind usability testing and general VuFind updates/news
Parkland: confused over transition from I-Share to Local and back Discussion: Problem: “show all libraries” link under Facets does not have a clear meeting. Solution: Put button that says I-Share at top right. Also have “Repeat search in I-Share” link at top of search results. Suggestion: On entering Advanced search page, carry over parameters of last simple search. Not going to be implemented now because page design future is in question Considered: Do we need a “New Search” button? Didn’t come up in usability testing. Resolved: Not needed because search box is always at the top. Observed: Testing not thorough. Only 5 of 12 early adopters responded. Usability discussion will be continued because more time needed to assess results. 8 libraries have accepted the link to VuFind. 25 libraries submitted customization requests for VuFind (mostly for color). Plan to put VuFind and classic Web Voyage buttons display on equal footing. News: Villanova working on new version of VuFind.
- VuFind Format Icons: phase 2
Types we want to distinguish: Cassette, CD’s, and LP’s. for spoken word, music Nancy will make (after September): Cassette with speech bubble Cassette with musical note LP with arm with musical note LP with arm with bubble Disc with bubble Disc with musical note
007 field will be used to distinguish types. Facet levels will not reflect the icon change because records that didn’t define the 007 would be dropped from the facet.
- IUG Update from IUG representative Keith Eiten (joining conference call around 10:20am)
Met on Aug 29 to review charge of group(s). Definitions: A User Group is linked to a product. A Working Group is linked to a topic. Task forces deal with finite issue; members are invited rather than volunteered. OPAC group is drifting toward a topic/working group as is the Instruction Group (who will call in to the UIG meeting Sept 19). OPAC group might participate in the IUG October meeting via call in. Other groups have similar issues. Do we rewrite our charges? Comment: Yes, to be sure that the group is not doing things outside the group’s charge.
- Need to review OPAC Team’s priorities at
http://www.carli.illinois.edu/comms/iug/iug-opac/iug-opac-reports/opac-tasklist.html The Team will look at the priorities during the next 2 weeks and discuss via email. Paige will remove completed items.
- Promotion of WebVoyage searchbox alternatives (for library web pages).
Examples looked at: http://libraryguides.saic.edu/home -- Flaxman has boxes by format type (e.g., music). http://library.wheaton.edu/ http://www.millikin.edu/staley/ http://library.depaul.edu/ Documentation simplification discussed: http://www.carli.illinois.edu/mem-prod/I-Share/opac/webvoy_url_builder.html Second bullet goes to code. Suggestion: Three-column web pages (one per search box, e.g. juvenile collection) with 1) specific type box, 2) what it does, 3) code. Jon, Amanda, and Paige will work on this via email; Nancy will work on presentation style (CSS, etc.). Simple search box is at: http://develop.carli.illinois.edu/ilcso/cgi-bin/pw.cgi
- WorldCat Local update
Link to I-Share not working in test yet. Performance is better. Will discuss more in a future meeting.
Next meeting: Oct. 14, 10-12 Susan will be in China.
