I-Share OPAC Team Minutes
February 5, 2008
Present: Nancy Bohm, Kathy Chang, Paula Dempsey, Jonathan Gorman, Hilary Kraus, Amanda Pippitt, Susan Prokopeak, Kathy Roegge, Jan Sung, Paige Weston
Update:
The general consensus was the “no holdings” wording should change. The revised wording reads: “catalog has no location or copy information. Please ask librarian for assistance.”
1. Map of I- Share Libraries
The group was very pleased with the map of I-Share Libraries. The system did not come up with a way to display all of the library names—to do so would take up too much room. DePaul has a created a mash-up of Chicago area CARLI members. Part of the difficulty with this customization is that Google will not allow the user to re-order search results.
There is a hyperlink to each library’s website via the CARLI website. One of the suggestions was adding a drop-down list of member libraries. The success of this may depend upon whether the map re-centers on not with each library selection.
2. Secure Connection to the OPAC
The CARLI links have been updated to a secure connection. Users will likely be getting a message about mixed media (Syndetics materials.) This is largely an IE issue (Firefox, and Safari seem to work without issue.) To alleviate the message you need to adjust the browser preference settings enable mixed content.
The system will be sending out a memo identifying: what to expect, why this change is good, and how to make sure you are updated.
3. Voyager Testing Script
Paige thanked everyone for their participation in testing the scripts. The consensus of the group was that we had gathered enough material for a draft.
The group will be doing a test run and as we come up with questions or have things that need to be changed or added we should send an e-mail to the list. We should add and edit material from the wiki list. If you see something that needs to be removed, go ahead and delete it.
Hilary will send out section assignments and instructions in a few weeks.
The next meeting is set for March 6, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
