Announcements:
- CARLI Report—given by Lorna Engels
- Susan Singleton, the Executive Director of CARLI, welcomed us to the committee and discussed the future of the ILS.
- Lorna discussed the I-share newsletter, which was distributed July 24, which gave information about posted I-Share events, and new developments in VuFind
- The Cataloging Electronic Resources/Electronic Resources Display in the OPAC Task Force is now looking for volunteers.
- The Usability Testing Volunteer Group is also looking for volunteer libraries who are willing to get students and other non-library staff to test different CARLI systems.
- This will require the approval of an institutional review board for participating libraries.
- Libraries that volunteer will not need to complete each usability test, but rather volunteer for each test that interests them
- CARLI is offering a trial of bX Recommender to member libraries. CARLI will not purchase bX Recommender for members, but will help negotiate pricing for the service.
- IUG Report—given by Jason Rossi
- 5 local libraries are presently using Worldcat Local as their new ILS.
- Voyager Upgrades are scheduled, to move from version 7.2 through 8.9.
- Changes involve enhanced customization fields, status wording changes
- Performance issues with I-Share are presently being worked on.
- Webfeat will no longer be maintained in December. CARLI is not planning to replace it.
- The IUG & Digital Collection Users’ Group (DCUG) are planning another copyright forum.
- There are large scale discussions planned to help determine what CARLI libraries want from their ILS.
- CARLI is offering two workshops on using MACRO Express, one for cataloguing, one for circulation.
- The CARLI board is opening applications to join I-share this year.
- The OPAC team may hold a forum on usability testing.
Tasks Assigned:
- The Instruction Team discussed last June’s series of tutorials workshops
- Feedback was largely positive, except for comments that too much time had been allowed for storyboarding/scripting
- The Instruction Team decided to hold two new tutorials workshops in November.
- The team decided to hold the workshop size to 15 participants, and to change from individual scripting time to group scripting time in the new tutorials.
- Potential Dates: November 6 and 13, 2009
- Ken Orenic and Kathleen Haefliger will investigate using the Dominican University campus and Chicago State University campus, respectively, for the forum.
- Team members will think about possible group scripting ideas for the next meeting.
- Rebecca Martin will send the URL for CARLI scripts and tutorials to the Instruction Section Team, if it is still active.
- The team decided to hold a forum centered on reinventing one shot instruction.
- The forum would include several workshops that attendants could chose as they were interested, including the following possible topics:
- Assessment
- Technology
- Learning styles
- Teaching in a mobile world
- Supplementing one-shot instruction
- Library Collaboration with faculty
- It was also suggested that the forum include a poster session.
- June was a potential date for the forum. Final date to be determined.
