Decisions:

  • Minutes of the September 3, 2008 meeting were approved prior to the meeting.
  • The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m.

Announcements:

  • IUG Report
    • The OPAC Team is looking at a Google Books link in VU-Find.  They are also researching usability testing for VU-Find.
    • The Resource Sharing Team has canceled its October forum and will be holding a forum sometime in the Spring
    • The IUG is in the process of looking at its own charge, and will be working on this at their next meeting on October 31. They are also meeting with the OPAC Team (during the morning) and the Resource Sharing Team (in the afternoon) to discuss those teams’ charges.
  • Carlos Melian, IUG Chair, started the discussion on the charge for the I-Share Instruction Team.  The team members looked at the draft, which was sent out earlier, and made suggestions.  There was a discussion about a possible collaboration/joining with the Public Services Working Group, and this group was going to talk about this at their October 6 meeting.  At this point, the IUG will possibly look into some sort of formal communication between the two groups.  Another possibility was making the Instruction Team into an Instruction Working Group, but it was mentioned that meeting space and forum planning would not be able to happen if this occurred.  After some discussion, it was decided to continue “where we are” and to work on our own charge.  Carlos left the meeting at this point.
  • CARLI Report:
    • Planning for the October 24 Annual meeting is ongoing.  Everyone is welcome to register.
    • Some of the CARLI staff will be attending the LITA conference in October.
  • Old Business:
    • Planning for the Social Networking Forum continued.  There was still no word from Jenny Levine of her availability, so it was suggested that the Team brainstorm other possible keynote speakers.  This will be done via the email list.  Possible dates selected for the Forum are April 1, 2 or 3.  Lorna is looking into reserving University of Illinois, Springfield as a location.  It was decided that the Forum would have 3 different breakout sessions, offered during two different times of the day.  Topics might include: clickers (Joe H.), the use of wikis in instruction (Molly B.), Trivial Pursuit-type game?, something on Second Life?, and a possible panel discussion.  The proposed schedule for the day is as follows:
      • 9:30 – 10:00 – Registration and coffee
      • 10:00 – 10:30 – CARLI report, housekeeping, promoting tutorial creation workshops
      • 10:30 – 11:30 – Keynote speaker
      • 11:30 – 12:30 – Lunch
      • 12:30 – 1:30 – 1st breakout session, 3 options participants pick 1
      • 1:30 – 1:45 – Break
      • 1:45 – 2:45 – 2nd breakout session
      • 2:45 – 3:00 – Closing remarks and evaluations
    • There was also planning for the prospective Tutorial Creation workshops.  Possible locations might include Eastern Illinois University, and a site to be determined in the Northern part of the state. The workshop would focus on best practices in script writing for tutorials, and then have handouts on different software used to created tutorials (Camtasia, Captivate,Wink).  Possible dates for this workshop might be June 5 or June 12.

Tasks assigned:

  • Brainstorm via email for keynote speakers at Social Networking Forum (all members)
