IUG Report, Stephanie Graves
- IUG Team news:
- IACQ—has a new chair. They are co-sponsoring a Technical Services Workflow Analysis conference with ICAT on Sept 10
- Voyager 7, the next upgrade, might be up for testing in the late fall.
- OPAC team—has new co-chairs. They have been looking at the development of VuFind and Voyager 7.0
- Resource Sharing Team has a forum October 29th at Miliken about privacy and e-reserves.
- The IUG discussed the IUG charge and team charges. They decided that the Instruction Team has the most problematic charge.
- IUG would like to invite the instruction team to their next meeting on Sept. 19 at 12:30.
- Lorna will provide a call-in number for this meeting.
- A dozen volunteers have answered a call for a new statistics task force, which will discuss how to help libraries gather statistics for institutions such as the ARL. The call for volunteers will close on Sept 19.
- A copyright workshop proposal has been submitted to the Program Planning Committee for March 20 at UIC. E-reserves will also be discussed.
- IUG will hold a liaisons forum in the spring for all CARLI liaisons and are planning a reports forum in late February.
Old Business:
- "Using social technologies in instruction" forum planning
- Lorna has contacted Jenny Levine, but has not heard back from her.
- All other discussion was postponed until Lorna has heard from Jenny.
- Tutorial creation workshop planning
- Discussion was tabled pending determination of the instruction forum date.
- Changes to the Instruction Team charge
- IUG was created as a product-centered group. Working groups are not product-centered. IUG may ask if the Instruction Team belongs to the IUG team or if it would rather become a working group.
- Board approval would be needed for this type of change.
- Customization on the part of member libraries limits the potential effect of I-Share Instruction Team tutorials distributed to member libraries; it is better to teach librarians best practices to create/adapt their own tutorials.
- The edited charge should retain specificity as far as end user instruction or librarian instruction and should be specific about our relationship to the product.
New Business
- We will meet the first Wednesday of every month from 10 AM-12 PM, pending everyone’s approval.
Tasks assigned:
- Randi will keep the Instruction Team charge on Google Docs so that members of the team can continue to edit the charge before the September 19th meeting with IUG.
- We will begin planning tutorial creation and the forum at our next meeting.
Meeting Dates and Deadlines:
Next Meeting will be Wednesday, October 1, from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM
