Decisions:
- Minutes of the 13/03/07 meeting were approved as amended
- Spring Forum planning:
- Venue was set for 04/09/08 at Kankakee Community College
- Topics/sessions were defined:
- CARLI update ((10 min.)
- FRBR and RDA (30 min. each)
- LC Working Group report and response (30 min.)
- Panel discussion of FRBR, RDA, LC Working Group Report (60 min.)
- 2 concurrent breakout sessions:
- Issues in serials cataloging
- CARLI updates (reprise of Fall Forum presentation by Casey Sutherland)
- Possible speakers were identified
- Deadline for confirming final agenda: end of January
- ICAT is interested in participating in a joint IACQ/ICAT program as proposed by IACQ
Announcements:
- Stephen Smith provided an IUG report. IUG didn’t have a meeting in December, but their highest priority current task is creating an agenda for the Liaisons Forum, which is scheduled for 3/18/2008 at Illinois Wesleyan University.
- Casey Sutherland provided news from CARLI:
- New ILDS service began 1/2/08
- Status of upcoming Voyager upgrade
- CARLI staff continue to work with VuFind software
- Work has begun profiling the 6 new CARLI libraries
Tasks assigned:
- ICAT members will contact and confirm speakers by 01/24/08 for the following Spring Forum sessions:
- RDA, FRBR: Joan Schuitema
- LC Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control: Priscilla Matthews
- Panel discussion: Gayle Porter, Susan Braxton
Discussion:
Priscilla Matthews reported on the work of a Statewide Cataloging Standards Committee in designing/administering certification training for library paraprofessional staff in the systems knowledge needed to perform the duties of each position (e.g., barcoding). The question was raised as to what the potential benefit of this work might be to CARLI and/or ICAT. Comments should be sent to Priscilla no later than 02/25/08. Priscilla agreed to keep ICAT informed of the work of this group.
