New proposals
Bentham Science Online Collection
Decision to table based on specialized content.
Continuing proposals –
- Greenwood American Mosiac – update
- Greenwood Pop Culture Universe – update
MLNC offers Greenwood products, although administrative cost lowers the discount, but only by a small percentage. Interested CARLI members will be encouraged to subscribe via MLNC.
- Springer eBooks – update
Springer has sent a new pricing proposal. It is a purchase model with larger discounts as group participation increases. The pricing can not be released to the group. Cindy will release the proposal without pricing and individual libraries who are interested will need to contact CARLI directly for pricing.
- Palgrave Dictionary of Economics – update
This offer has been clarified as a subscription based upon participation levels. Pricing is $863.00 per year as subscription with a minimum commitment of 15 libraries. Tier structure has been eliminated at the moment. It is unknown how frequently the product is updated. Will send out survey to see if libraries are interested.
- Oxford Scholarship Online – update
Also offered via MLNC.
- Wilson Select – update
There has been a changed in the pricing offered by the Library Systems in Illinois for OCLC Wilson Select Plus. More details to come… MLNC does offer Wilson Omnifile. Periodical Abstracts for CARLI (8 subscribers) will move forward with CARLI and will be offered in the spring selection cycle.
- PerAbs – update
Periodical Abstracts for CARLI (8 subscribers) will move forward with CARLI and will be offered as a product in the spring selection cycle
- Old business
E-resource wish lists – Ongoing discussion. A compilation of the results received so far is attached.
Licensing conference – Registration announced. (see announcements above)
- New business
Mary Ann Liebert Journals – Do we want to continue funding this product for CARLI? Cindy is gathering usage stats. Renewal deadline is December.
Cindy sent out usage data on this collection, aggregated for CARLI as a whole. Cindy does not have a renewal price yet. We decided to do the 2009 renewal if the increase is reasonable, but to survey the membership in Spring 2009 to find out how important this collection is to libraries (if it is fully or partially subsidized by CARLI). Current contract expires in 2010.
Web of Science – Cindy has received proposal materials from them but has asked for a discussion about what the benefits are for both of us to go through the process of putting a consortial agreement in place when they are currently offering individual libraries the 10% CARLI discount on their own.
Why do we want to do this? It facilitates an annual increase cap for the participating members, plus the continuous backfile discount. Jeannette and Sarah could tell us what kind of increases they have seen over the years. We discussed surveying the CARLI members who have expressed interest in WoS and ask them at what price point they would make them jump in on the offer, and what collections are most desirable; we need more information on this.
All CIC CARLI schools have Web of Science, plus a number of CARLI libraries not eligible for the CIC offer. It is unclear how many libraries will be interested in the backfile offer. Are CARLI libraries seeing big increases currently in their Web of Science renewals? How does the group deal with interested parties? Cindy will discuss with Thomson about sharing initial pricing with the group. Need information about price points and collections of interest.
DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) Membership Request – CARLI has received a request to support DOAJ by becoming a member institution. Information about membership may be found at http://www.doaj.org/doaj?func=3Dmembership .
Group will take away and think about for next time. CARLI board has expressed interest.
E-Book Survey – Can we create a member survey that would inform us about how CARLI members are currently utilizing e-books and if there is a particular role that CARLI needs to provide in regards to E-books?
Group will look at survey, sent out by Jeannette on 10/13, and give feedback.
