August 13, 2007

Members calling in:  Wendy Shelburne (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), Sarah George (Illinois Wesleyan University), Sara Blaszczak (University of Illinois at Chicago), Jeanette Pierce (Loyola University), Chris Sweet (Heartland Community College), Tom Dorst (CARLI), David Hamilton (CARLI), Elizabeth Clarage (CARLI)

Guests calling in:  Gwen Harrison (Illinois State Library)

Members absent:  Jeff Matlak (Western Illinois University), Laurie Sauer (Knox College), Connie Walsh (CARLI)

Discussions:

  1. Review of current proposals –
    • Suggestion to have vendors submit trial information along with proposals
    • RSC Ejournals – Staff go back to RSC for pricing and detail
    • MyiLibrary, Ebrary, Elsevier Ebooks – defer pending Ebook review
    • Ebook survey; Wendy to circulate initial list of questions for survey to approve at September meeting; Survey to last 1 month
    • SWETS – ALPSP Learned Journals – Staff request pricing
    • Historical Statistics of U.S. – Pricing is very attractive; Staff to proceed; clarification on annual maintenance fee
    • CQ (Almanac, Weekly and Researcher PLUS Archive) – all of these are available to CARLI members through MLNC; slightly better price by going through CARLI; possible that this is standard consortia pricing; Wendy will clarify pricing and inform ERWG
      • Is there an upcharge for the Archive?  You can purchase the Archive outright one-time
    • Bowker Book Analysis – approximately 30 members went with Syndetic Solutions; IWU has the Book Analysis product (useful but not a good interface); proposal rejected at this time
  2. SAGE Premier Collection (current content)  Update –
    • (Tom) – Premier Collection proposal is through U of I purchasing; complex offer dependent partially upon a library’s current Sage holdings; most questions to date have been sent direct to Sage;
      • 60% of the FTE must be represented; includes the FTE of those who already own the Backfile and that is near 50%
      • This is a flip model and those buying print or working with a Serial agent there would be a real time crunch in getting things ordered in time online and then getting only certain titles in print
  3. Old business -
    • September in-person meeting
      • September 17, 2007 (10:30am to 2:30pm)
      • Agenda – primary discussion to focus on Licensing and Ebook survey
    • ABI Inform – survey is currently functioning; waiting to receive pricing from Proquest and OCLC
    • Inquiries about PDR – ISL has informed public that there are alternatives provided by Thomson
  4. New business  –
    • none
