1.   Announcements: One-time purchase update

2.    Review of new and current proposals:

New proposals

There were no new proposals this month

Continuing proposals:

  • Slavery, Abolition and Social Justice, 1490-2007; Everyday Life and Women in America, c.1800-1920; and The American West
  • Update: After our June call I was in touch with Khal Rudin of Adam Mathew and we agreed that this offer would be handled directly between the libraries and AM.  I will send out the offer detailing the CARLI discount to the listservs.  Initially the offer will cover only the Slavery and Everyday Life products as The American West will not be released until later in 2008.
  • Vault Career Library – On our June call we agreed that some of you would gather information about how this product is being funded on your campuses for further discussion this month.  I also talked with staff at Vault about the source of subscription funds but they were not able to provide this information.  Once again here is the response from Scott Drone-Silvers of Lake Land College:
  • I have looked into the possibility of subscribing to this myself in the recent past. It has a very good reputation (I asked out on the CJC-L list for community college librarians about it) - but also has the reputation of being quite pricey. I have a pretty good e-resource budget, and I couldn’t afford it (it was $5K or so a year, I think). I suspect that many other community colleges would be in the same position.
  • My take is that I suspect that the 4-year institutions would find that this would get used by their students as well, but the question is who wants to pay for it. Even if their library doesn’t want to pay for it, they could score some points with their campus folks if they can save them money on the renewal or a new subscription.
  • Oxford Scholarship Online – contact has been made with Oxford about a subscription model but they have not responded.  We’ll keep trying.
  • SimplyMaps – have we made a final decision on this product?

3.    Old business

  • Licensing conference – the speaker agreement has been signed by Trisha Davis and I sent her an e-mail about the planned program.  I have not heard from her yet so will try to have something to you before the August call.
  • E-Book Symposium – I’ll provide an update from a planning call scheduled for 7/11
  • Aluka – http://www.aluka.org/ Wendy will provide information from UIUC’s Africana bibliographer on possible consortial interest.

4.    New business:  Next conference call: August 11, 2008, 1:30 – 3:00
