1.    Announcements

  • Spring selection system update
  • One-time purchase update – 27 libraries have signed up and our total commitments are now approximately $94,960, which is 42% of the $255,000 we need to recover.  Questions have come up about the 10% discount which we had offered to libraries purchasing all 4 of the new databases at the same time.  So to attempt to acknowledge previous Sage Deep Backfile purchases and to provide incentives for additional purchases of the Sage Deep Backfiles, we will be announcing an expansion of the discounts today.  We would appreciate your feedback on the explanation of the new discount offer:
    1)    If you purchase the Sage Deep Backfiles plus 3 of the new products, the 10% discount will be applied to all 4 products being purchased.
    2)    If you purchase all 4 new products plus the Sage Deep Backfiles, the 10% discount will be applied to all 5 products being purchased.
    3)    If you have previously purchased the Sage Deep Backfiles you will be eligible to receive the 10% discount with the purchase of 3 of the new products.  The discount will apply only to the three products being purchased at this time and no adjustments will be made to the amount previously paid for the Sage Deep Backfiles.
    4)    If you have already made purchases since the new products were made available on 5/23 and you would like to add to your purchases to qualify for the discount, you will have until 7/31/08 to return to the selection system and make these additions, to allow for the use of funds from either FY08 or FY09.  The total discount for the products selected since 5/23 will be reflected on the invoice for the product(s) selected last.

2.     Review of new and current proposals

New proposals
  • Slavery, Abolition and Social Justice, 1490-2007
  • Everyday Life and Women in America, c.1800-1920
  • The American West
Continuing proposals:
  • Vault Career Library – I contacted Scott Drone-Silvers of Lake Land College for input on possible interest for the community colleges.  Here is his response:
"I have looked into the possibility of subscribing to this myself in the recent past. It has a very good reputation (I asked out on the CJC-L list for community college librarians about it) - but also has the reputation of being quite pricey. I have a pretty good e-resource budget, and I couldn’t afford it (it was $5K or so a year, I think). I suspect that many other community colleges would be in the same position. My take is that I suspect that the 4-year institutions would find that this would get used by their students as well, but the question is who wants to pay for it. Even if their library doesn’t want to pay for it, they could score some points with their campus folks if they can save them money on the renewal or a new subscription."
  • Oxford Scholarship Online
  • SimplyMaps – we agreed on the April call to revisit this
