    Other comments received:
    • Negotiating renewals. Once the customer is "hooked" on the product and the vendor can see your bazillion hits, renewals can be difficult to negotiate.I think this is a great idea. I have been to many, many licensing training sessions and classes. What I learned is invaluable.
    • Creating a standardized license agreement. The future of the simplified agreement. Best current resources for sample agreements.
    • How to work with campus administrators who are responsible for handling all licensing. Keeping faculty up to date on licensing issues through local training.
    • Networking about pricing - how to know if you're getting the best deal you can for your institution, especially in comparison to similar institutions.
    • Where to find the funds to pay for expensive new databases
    • I'm still in my first year as a librarian. I actually want to check all of the boxes just to hear what someone with more experience has to say.
    • For public institutions, working with institutional purchasing and legal divisions in negotiating a license
    • Confidentiality agreements pros and cons
    • Drafting clauses
    • Use CARLI licenses as examples so participants can see the results in what we have.
    • permissions to inter-library loan from licensed databases
    • best practices products or systems which manage licenses
    • Consortium purchase considerations when licensing, how that affects member institutions
    • Although specific to state universities, we continue to have problems with the various addenda the state requires and are told other state universities have signed agreements without them

      Willingess to pay:
    • 32 (50.8%) would be willing to pay up to $100
    • 7 (11.1%) would be willing to pay up to $175
    • 5 (7.9%) would be willing to pay up to $250
    • 19 (30.2%) would not be willing to pay

Staff will contact ALCTS with this information and begin discussing possible curriculum and pricing.
  • One time purchases – there was mention in the CARLI newsletter that the Board had approved the 4 products for purchase.  An announcement will be sent out next week with more information.  Sign-ups will begin after the close of the selection system in early May.  We are trying to make it possible for folks to sign up utilizing the selection system rather than Survey Monkey and we should have more information on our May call.
  • E-Book Symposium - update

4.    New business:  Next conference call, May 12, 2008, 1:30 – 3:00
