CARLI Digital Collections Users’ Group Meeting Minutes May 21, 2009 Conference Call
Members present: Matt Cook (Chair; Illinois Institute of Technology), Kevin Ford (Columbia College Chicago), Betsy Kruger (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), Ellen Corrigan (Eastern Illinois University), Ginger Frere (Newberry Library), Julie Patton (Northwestern University), Sue Wilson (Illinois Wesleyan University)

CARLI Staff present: Jessica Gibson (DCUG Liaison), Amy Maroso (DCUG Liaison), Elizabeth Clarage (PWG Liaison)

- Minutes from April meeting were sent out, members should review and send any comments or corrections to the DCUG list by Wednesday, May 27.
- CDC Statistics Update (Jessica): All suggested changes have been made, and a CARLI programmer is finishing work on the project. Jessica would like to make this public as soon as possible, so any additional comments or corrections should be sent to the e-mail list within the next few days.
- CDC redesign update
- Jessica reviewed the screen shots with the committee. Kerri went for a clean modern look and incorporated a global header and footer for better branding and navigation throughout the site.
- The front page features a slider of images which can be changed.
- Kerri Created a “collections of collections,” and assigned topics and media to each collection.
- Individual collection homepages maintain their own identify and colors but are wrapped in a CARLI header/footer.
- After Kerri makes this last set of changes, interface committee will take another look at it. Rollout still planned for Forum in July.
- June 30 is end date on Kerri’s contract.
- Ellen Corrigan was elected new DCUG chair for 2009-2010. The committee thanked Matt for his hard work.
- CONTENTdm 5 update: 5.1 is now available. CARLI will be testing this soon as they can, but need to wait until all the changes are made to the CDC web site redesign.
- Subcommittee Updates:
- Interface had no updates.
- Standards: Kevin reported that no additional comments were received on the audio digitization best practices. Committee approved the document and it will be posted on the CARLI website.
- July Forum update:
- Speakers confirmed.
- Dates for speakers to get handouts to CARLI office for printing is two weeks prior to forum. Speaker liaisons from the committee will convey this information to speakers, send them the final agenda, and keep in touch with them up to the forum in July.
- CARLI is arranging lunch, coffee, room. Six to seven weeks prior to forum, CARLI will send out registration announcement.
- DCUG will have a short get together at the forum instead of a meeting in July.
- Annual report update: The annual report written by Matt was approved. Matt will email it to Susan Singleton and copy Amy and Jessica.
- Digital Preservation subcommittee: A subcommittee made up of interested members of the Preservation Working Group and DCUG will be formed and their work can begin in July. The goal is to create a document outlining suggestions for CARLI’s involvement in digital preservation and to send the document to the CARLI Board by December 2009. In the meantime, At forum, Matt will state that we aren’t endorsing any product, but that this committee has been formed to investigate further.
