CARLI Digital Collections Users’ Group Meeting Minutes Thursday, March 12, 2009 Conference Call 10:00 a.m.-10:45 a.m.
Members present: Matt Cook (Chair; Illinois Institute of Technology), Ellen Corrigan (Eastern Illinois University), Kevin Ford (Columbia College Chicago), Ginger Frere (Newberry Library), Betsy Kruger (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), Michel Nguessan (Governors State University), Julie Patton (Northwestern University), Sue Wilson (Illinois Wesleyan University)
CARLI Staff present: Jessica Gibson (DCUG Liaison), Amy Maroso (DCUG Liaison), Elizabeth Clarage (PWG Liaison)
- Ellen was confirmed as minutes taker.
- Digital Preservation Forum planning: Matt and Lynne Thomas (PWG Chair) finalized the forum schedule and submitted the paperwork to the CARLI Program Planning Committee. It was agreed that the upcoming forum will focus on awareness of the issue of digital preservation, and that the group will have future opportunities to pursue the collaborative models aspect. The group hopes that the pending DCUG/PWG position paper discussed at our January meeting and this forum will serve as an opportunity to reevaluate the current state of and CARLI’s potential role in collaborative statewide digital preservation efforts among member institutions.
- Standards Subcommittee report: Kevin reported that subcommittee members will be making changes to the rough draft for digital audio preservation standards. A final draft will be presented to DCUG for comment at the April 16 meeting.
- Interface Subcommittee report: Sue reported that Kerri Willette, consultant for the CARLI Digital Collections redesign, is reviewing documentation from the subcommittee. Jessica relayed to Kerri the subcommittee’s ideas regarding the images to be used as thumbnails for the collection descriptions and featured images. Jessica compiled suggestions from CONTENTdm institutional contacts regarding the proposed topic and format categories, and Ellen incorporated the suggestions into the lists.
- CONTENTdm 5 update: Jessica is working with CONTENTdm Support on the functionality of version 5.
- Grant writing workshops: The workshops held in Springfield on February 24 and in Chicago on March 10 were deemed successful. Matt suggested that the group consider offering the workshops again at a later date.
- New business: None.
- Next meeting (conference call): Thursday, April 16, 2009, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
