Vision 2020 Task Force
This task force is charged with creating a vision for CARLI/I-Share services in 2020 that is both compelling and achievable. This vision will consider traditional, innovative, and transformational ways that Illinois academic libraries will work together in the future, including but not limited to, collection development, collection management, resource discovery and delivery, staffing and expertise, print storage, joint materials purchase and other collaborative services. In addition to articulating the vision, the task force will investigate and identify the technological, financial, organizational structures and policy development that will be needed to accomplish the vision. The task force will report their progress to the CARLI Board meetings as its work progresses. It is anticipated that the final vision will be described in a written report and/or white paper. There are many challenges in such a vision and as a result, the Board encourages the Task Force to take the time necessary to discuss, survey, and craft its recommendations. Subject to Task Force’s progress and deliberations, a formal report should be submitted to the Board by the June 2011 Board meeting. Finally, the Board encourages the Task Force in its thinking to be informed by the rich legacy of libraries and library cooperation in Illinois, but also to be unencumbered by that history. The Board seeks pragmatic solutions that are achievable, but as importantly, the Board encourages and calls for bold thinking, creative recommendations, and big ideas – ideas big enough to address the challenges and opportunities for libraries in 2020 so that the legacy of libraries in Illinois will not simply continue but expand, improve, and enrich. |
