Prior to assuming this role at the CIC, he served as Collection Development Officer at the University of Michigan University Library where he worked for more than twenty years. Mark has been involved with the development of the Text Creation Partnership, a working group that partners with libraries and commercial publishers to create accurately keyboarded and encoded editions of early texts. He has been involved with the Google BookSearch project, and has written and presented widely about how mass digitization initiatives are affecting local collection development strategies. Mary Munroe is Interim Dean, University Libraries, Northern Illinois University. She has worked in collection development for 20 years, first as a selector, then as a Collection Development Department Head, and finally for the last eight years as Associate Dean for Collections and Technical Services. Her research interests are in Scholarly Communication and Collection Assessment. Dane Ward is Associate Dean of Public Services at Illinois State University's Milner Library. A frequent workshop presenter and author of articles on information literacy, organizational culture, and collaboration, Ward is also a faculty member of ACRL’s Institute for Information Literacy. In 2000, he co-edited and co-authored the popular ACRL publication, The Collaborative Imperative: Librarians and Faculty Working Together in the Information Universe. Stephen J. Smith is the Director of Bibliographic Services at the University of Illinois at Springfield. From 2000-2002 he was chairperson for the Illinois OCLC User’s Group, during which time he received the American Library Association’s LITA/Library Hi-Tech Award for his interactive CD-ROM tutorial entitled, “IOUG Introductory Authority File Workshop.” Stephen has served on numerous ALA committees, including the ALCTS CCS Cataloging and Classification: Description and Access Committee. Betsy Kruger is the head of Central Circulation, Bookstacks, and the Oak Street high-density shelving facility at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is also the chair of the UIUC Library's Mass Digitization Task Force, a collaborative group which is overseeing the Library's participation in the Open Content Alliance and the development of Illinois Harvest, a web portal with search, aggregation, and discovery services that will provide organized and thematic access to digitized and born digital collections of public interest from the University of Illinois. |
