CARLI eBook PDA Pilot Project Ending

CARLI's eBook PDA (patron driven acquisition) pilot project is coming to a close. On January 5, 2015, CARLI staff will remove from I-Share all of the bibliographic records for titles offered under the project that were not purchased by CARLI. The only records that will remain in the I-Share catalogs on January 6 will be for titles that CARLI has purchased during the pilot project. Patrons of CARLI libraries will have ongoing access to the titles that have been purchased but will no longer have access to unpurchased content.

Governing members that are not in I-Share that have loaded the EBL bibliographic records into their local catalog will need to delete the bibs for unpurchased titles from their catalogs In early January, CARLI will provide a full set of replacement bib records for all titles purchased under the program.

Since May 2014, when the pilot project began, CARLI governing members have had access to more than 29,000 titles from 18 different publishers. Patrons have browsed more than 12,500 items per month, on average, from 5,900 browses in May to nearly 21,000 in November. As of November 30, 2014, CARLI has purchased 1,060 titles. CARLI staff will be reviewing the pilot project and working toward turning the pilot into an opt-in program for CARLI libraries.

ILDS to Discontinue Incoming Manifests

ILDS strives to deliver library materials as quickly and efficiently as possible and to provide libraries with useful and reliable documentation regarding their shipments. Many factors go into providing a daily manifest of incoming ILDS shipments, and the accuracy of those manifests is subject to many influences. In response to the confusion and frustration that arises from inaccurate incoming manifests, ILDS will cease offering incoming manifests beginning January 5, 2015.

Each day, across the state, hundreds of ILDS bags are moving through the system. The slightest disruption can greatly diminish the accuracy of the incoming manifests. These routine disruptions may include trucks running late due to traffic or weather problems; shipping labels with inaccurate or missing delivery information; labels that cannot be scanned due to poor print quality or missing barcode information; or an interruption in the vendor's network service.

Taking all of these factors into consideration, along with the ongoing feedback we have received from you, we have determined this is the best course of action at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, however we believe that discontinuing the incoming manifest will improve the efficiencies of ILDS.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at .

CARLI is seeking teams of academic library staff members for ILEAD USA (Innovative Librarians Explore, Apply and Discover): The 21st Century Technology and Leadership Skills Institute for the States, hosted by the Illinois State Library.

This continuing education initiative will be held at the University of Illinois Springfield, March 23–26, June 22–25 and October 26–29, 2015. The ILEAD USA states partnering with Illinois are Delaware, Maine, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah and Wisconsin
