CARLI Digitized Book of the Month – February 2015

From: Quincy University

This tranquil image comes from the 1949 yearbook for Quincy College, now Quincy University. The photo captures the bell tower of Francis Hall framed by trees laced with snow. Francis Hall was originally built between 1893-1898, and the building continues to form the backbone of the Quincy, Illinois campus today.

No students or faculty are seen trudging through the snow in this photo. Perhaps, like many of us on February 2, they had a snow day. But, this photo is also a reminder that when you put aside the hassle and stress of driving in snowy weather, winter in the Midwest is also beautiful and peaceful. Enjoy a few moments of the solitude that winter brings us.
