Tutorials for I-Share (ILLINET Online)
ILCSO/CARLI libraries have expressed interest in the development of end-user tutorials for WebVoyáge, to be made available to all member libraries. The IUAG End User Instruction Committee (EUIC) was created to address this task, and is pleased to announce the completion of a set of tutorials covering various aspects of using ILLINET Online. The tutorials are all based on the "All ILCSO Libraries" catalog. On January 3, 2006, the name of the shared catalog was changed from ILLINET Online to I-Share. The tutorials and accompanying documentation will be updated in the near future to reflect this name change.
On this page you will find the tutorials posted in Macromedia Flash (.swf) format and in .avi format for downloading, a description of the topics covered in each tutorial, the running times, the scripts (Word documents) used in making the ILLINET Online tutorials, and a list of options for using the tutorials.
A web page designed for public users can be found at http://www.carli.illinois.edu/I-Share/training/movies/eu-tutorials.html where the tutorials are posted in Macromedia Flash format for easy viewing, along with the topics covered and the running times.
Each library can decide how to use these tutorials; you may decide to use all or only some of the lessons. Below are some options for using these tutorials:
The raw files posted on the web page are in the .avi format. They will only be viewable in this format on computers that have a specific TechSmith codec installed. This codec comes with the Camtasia Studio software, but may not be generally available on other computers.
If you would like to produce one or more of these tutorials in another format for posting on your local library website (without any other customization), simply download the .avi file, import it into Camtasia Studio, then “Produce the video” in another of the available formats (e.g. QuickTime .mov, Windows Media Streaming video .wmv, RealMedia streaming media .rm, etc.).
The End User Instruction Committee hopes that you find these tutorials useful for instructing users about the catalog. Please contact the CARLI Office at oncall@listserv.ilcso.uiuc.edu if you have any questions about these tutorials.

Camtasia Training Materials NEW 02/13/2006
In November and December 2005 the IUAG End User Instruction Committee held five training sessions to instruct CARLI/ILCSO member libraries' staff in the use of Camtasia Studio™ software as it relates to their recently completed ILLINET Online tutorial project. EUIC used Camtasia Studio™/SnagIt®, a bundled software package for creating and editing multimedia tutorials by the TechSmith Corporation, to develop the tutorial modules. The training sessions covered the background behind the tutorial project and provided an in-depth look at the steps needed to create a single tutorial. Feel free to use these materials for training others at your institution.
